Thomas has cut his list down to two schools.
"I've got it down to Southern (Miss) and (Mississippi) State," said the 6-5, 235-pounder. "Right now, they are equal, because they are both great schools and have both been recruiting me."
Thomas officially visits Southern Miss this weekend and Mississippi State the following weekend.
Both schools' head coaches will be taking their in-home visits this week.
"(MSU head) Coach (Sylvester) Croom is coming over next Thursday to talk with me. (USM head) Coach (Jeff) Bower will be here Wednesday."
At one time, he said Mississippi State was talking about grayshirting him. Is that still a possibility with MSU and, for that matter, Southern Miss.
"It's still a possibility, but (MSU assistant) Coach (Ellis) Johnson was talking more along the lines of redshirting me," said Thomas. "Southern Miss is talking that they are really slim at the tight end position. They have a freshman, Shawn Nelson, coming back. They were recruiting Jonathan Massey, from Gautier, but he committed to Vanderbilt. I would probably be working for the 2nd string spot if I went there."
Does the fact that he will be able to play for 2nd team as a freshman at Southern Miss make a difference to him?
"It does and it doesn't," said Thomas. "If I go to State I will still get my shot because Dezmond (Sherrod) and Eric (Butler) are graduating in two years."
We'll check back with Thomas after his Southern Miss visit.
