Lady Dogs Begin Two-Game Road Stance

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs (6-11, 1-3 SEC) are looking to snap a two-game conference losing skid traveling to Athens, Ga. to face the Georgia Lady Bulldogs (12-4, 2-1 SEC) on Thursday, Jan. 19 at 7 p.m. ET to be televised on Comcast Sports Southeast.

MSU most recently fell to No. 1 Tennessee this past Sunday, 79-56. Despite the 23-point loss to the Lady Vols, there were several positives that came from the game. State held the top-ranked team to 79 points that was below UT's 81.9 points per game average. Also despite a sizeable height advantage underneath, Tennessee only out rebounded MSU by four rebounds, 37-33. Freshman guard/forward Robin Porter posted 15 points and six rebounds, one point shy of her career high. Sophomore guard Miayorka Johnson tallied 11 points and freshman guard Heather Hollis put up 10.

This will mark the 30th meeting between Mississippi State and Georgia. Georgia leads the overall series 19-10 and is 9-3 when hosting State in Athens. UGA has won the last two meetings, including the 67-57 defeat in Starkville on Jan. 23, 2005. The last time that MSU won in Athens was Jan. 31, 2002 (72-71).

The Georgia Lady Bulldogs (12-4, 2-1 SEC) are 6-1 over the last seven games with their sole loss coming at Tennessee, 94-85. They most recently concluded a 10-3 non-conference record with the 74-59 win over Miami. UGA has tallied a 5-0 home record this season. The Lady Bulldogs are led by sophomore forward Tasha Humphrey who is averaging 19.8 points per game and 9.1 rebounds per game. Senior guard Sherill Baker is putting up 18.6 ppg, sophomore guard/forward Megan Darrah has 12.2 ppg and junior guard Cori Chambers has 11.6 ppg.

This will mark MSU's third TV game this season and second on Comcast Sports Southeast.

The Lady Bulldogs continue on the road for their Sunday game, traveling to Fayetteville, Ark. to face the Lady Razorbacks for the second time this season on Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. CT.
