Women's Hoops to Rematch Arkansas Sunday

STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State Lady Bulldogs (6-12, 1-4 SEC) are looking to snap their three-game losing streak when they face the Arkansas Lady Razorbacks (11-6, 3-1 SEC) Sunday, Jan. 22 in Fayetteville, Ark. Since the Jan. 5 meeting between the two SEC foes, MSU has gone 0-3 in conference competition while Arkansas has tallied a 2-1 record.

State dropped its third straight game vs. top-25 teams Thursday night with an 81-42 loss at No. 13/16 Georgia. The Lady Bulldogs lost the previous two games to No. 19 Vanderbilt and top-ranked Tennessee this past Sunday. Sophomore guard Amy Reeder came off the bench to nail three 3-pointers to lead the Lady Bulldogs with a career-high nine points. Senior forward Mamie McKinney trailed her with eight points and seven rebounds. MSU was able to pull down 20 offensive rebounds against the top-25 ranked UGA Bulldogs.

Freshman guard Heather Hollis has taken over the scoring ranks in conference games only, averaging 10.6 points per game followed by freshman guard/forward Robin Porter with 8.4 points per game and 6.4 rebounds per game. Head Coach Sharon Fanning is still in search of her 500th career win with a 499-363 record coming into the meeting.

Since the SEC season opener on Jan. 5, Arkansas has gone 2-1 in the league with wins at Vanderbilt (52-51 in overtime) and vs. Auburn (64-60) and the lone loss came at Alabama, 75-73. Their most recent games have been close decisions determined by four points or less. Junior guard Kristin Peoples has returned to action after being sidelined for six games. Peoples continues to lead Arkansas with 13.8 points per game.

Arkansas has taken the last three meetings including the Jan. 5 meeting earlier this season, 66-45. The Lady 'Backs are 7-1 when hosting State. The last time MSU won in Bud Walton Arena was Feb. 20, 2003 (72-59).

After Sunday, the Lady Bulldogs return home briefly to host a rematch of the Ole Miss Lady Rebels on Thursday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. CT before heading to Auburn, Ala. on Sunday, Jan. 29 to face the Tigers.
