ATHENS, Ga. - Mississippi State's doubles team of Renee Joseph and Daniela Juskova picked up a win on the second day of competition at the Georgia Invitational in Athens, Ga. on Saturday.
The Joseph/Juskova duo topped Troy's pairing of Nicole Shaw and Annabelle Bares 8-5 to claim MState's lone win on the day. In other doubles matches, MSU's Anastasia Kugakolova and Elna De Villiers dropped a hard-fought 9-7 decision to Tsitsi Masviba and Claudia Strauss of TU.
In singles competition, Kugakolova won the first set of her match, 6-3 against Georgia's Natalie Frazier, who is ranked 37th in the country, but Frazier rebound to take the match in the next two sets. MSU's Martina Banikova fell to No. 57 Carolina Basu of UGA 6-1, 6-1. Joseph faced No. 100 Darya Ivanov of UGA, but lost 6-2, 6-2.
The Georgia Invitational will wrap up on Sunday, beginning at 9 a.m.
