North Pike HS (Summit, MS) DE/TE Jeremy Pittman

[Premium article] Jeremy Pittman (6-5, 220, 4.6) is a defensive end/tight end from North Pike High School in Summit, Mississippi. Jeremy has a chance to become one of the hottest recruits in Mississippi next season due to his excellent combination of size and speed.

What is your height, weight and forty speed?
"I am 6-5, weight 220 and run a 4.6 forty."

What positions do you play?
"Offensively I play tight end and defensively I play defensive end."

How long have you been playing football?
"Since the 7th grade."

Have you always played defensive end and tight end?
"No sir, I have played all different positions. On offense I have played tailback, tight end, fullback, wide receiver. On the defensive side I have played defensive end, outside and middle linebacker and down tackle."

Which positions do you have the most fun playing?
"It would have to be defensive end and linebacker. Offensively, it doesn't matter as long as I have my hands on the ball. Tight end is ok."

Do you know what your maximum bench press and squat is?
"My last (bench press) max was 295. It seemed like my squat was 385." [He wasn't sure about the squat max.-Gene]

What do you feel you are best at on the football field?
"I think I am better on the defensive side. I am good at getting to the ball and making tackles."

What areas of your game do you feel you need to improve?
"Coming off the ball. Plus, I don't feel like I am big enough right now. I feel like I need to gain another 35 pounds and grow another 2 inches."

Do you know what your personal stats were last season?
"No sir, at the school they haven't kept stats the last couple of years. I think they are going to try and do it this year."

Do you have a guess as to how you did?
"I would say I averaged about 2 sacks a game."

Did you earn any honors this past season?
"This year, I got best Defensive Lineman and I made All-District D-Line."

Did you attend any camps last summer?
"No sir."

Do you plan on attending any camps this summer?
"Yes sir, I am in the process of figuring out which ones."

Which ones are you considering?
"I am looking at Mississippi State, Alabama has a one-day camp and LSU has a two-day camp. There are a lot of others but those are the ones that I have narrowed it down to. Those are probably going to be the ones that I will attend."

Have you grown up a fan of any particular school?
"As far as ones that have contacted me?"

No, really what I mean is during your childhood have there been any schools you liked to watch on tv or like to pull for?
"It has been the Volunteers of Tennessee and the only other one was Grambling State University."

What colleges are mailing you letters?
"(Laugh) I'll tell you the ones that I am most interested in. Marshall, the University of Alabama, Mississippi State, Auburn and LSU. I'm getting a lot of other letters as well."

Have you received any calls from college coaches during May?
"Yes sir, all the ones that I just named." [Marshall, Alabama, MSU, Auburn and LSU-Gene]. "I'm trying to think who else has called. Louisiana Tech's coach also called."

You've received a lot of calls. Have you enjoyed recruiting, so far?
"Yeah, it has been interesting."

Has it built your ego up a little bit due to receiving so much attention?
"I'll say it like this, it made me feel good when it first happened, when I first started getting letters and calls because I hadn't been getting any attention. However, I try to keep it within myself because you don't want any of the other kids to think you have a big head or are bragging. I am trying to keep the team together also, so you don't want to go around bragging."

That statement makes me think back to my earlier question about your strengths on the football field. Do you consider yourself a leader on the field?
"Yes sir, I try. I try to lead by example."

What schools are you most interested in at this time?
"Most interested? I would have to say Mississippi State, Marshall and Alabama."

Any certain reason or reasons you picked those three?
"Well, I like the coaches from when I talked to them. They are down to earth coaches. You don't want to go somewhere where you are not comfortable with the coaches that you are playing under. I feel like I would be comfortable going to any of those schools. Those coaches are showing a lot of interest in me. If a coach shows a lot of interest in me, then he has my attention."

Have you thought about what you are going to major in at college?
"I'm thinking about Electrical Engineering."

That about does it, Jeremy. I've really enjoyed talking with you.
