Auburn has enjoyed two recent SEC wins at Kentucky (71-57) and vs. Alabama (65-56) for a 2-4 conference record. The Tigers went 9-4 in non-conference competition, including riding a five-game win streak during that time. AU is led by freshman guard DeWanna Bonner with 13.6 ppg, followed by senior guard Nitasha Brown with 11.2 ppg and senior center Marita Payne is averaging 7.4 rpg.
State dropped their fifth straight game in conference play on Thursday night with a disappointing 76-71 loss to Ole Miss in their 70th meeting in the series. Despite leading for the majority of the game, State's lead was relinquished for good at the 3:33 mark of the second half and in the final minutes UM rallied off a 16-9 run, including nine straight points, to take the five-point win. Freshman Robin Porter led the way for State tallying a career-high 19 points, while freshman Heather Hollis had 15 and freshman Marneshia Richard added 10. Senior forward Mamie McKinney tied a career-high 12 rebounds in the loss.
After Sunday the Lady Bulldogs have an open date on Thursday, Feb. 2 before they begin a four-game home stand on Sunday, Feb. 5 hosting South Carolina at Humphrey Coliseum.
