On the season, the former second-team PARADE All-American at Oak Hill Academy is leading coach Rick Stansbury's 12-10 Bulldogs in scoring (13.7 ppg; 12th in the SEC), assists (4.0 apg; 9th) and minutes played (32.7 mpg; 9th). Gordon also ranks 10th among the league's leading rebounders at 6.6 boards per outing. In conference games only, Gordon stands 13th in scoring (13.8 ppg), seventh in rebounding (8.1 rpg) and fourth in assists (4.8 apg).
Ranked 11th among the top NCAA freshmen scorers and 13th among leading freshmen rebounders nationally, Gordon is bidding to become the first Bulldog freshman to lead MSU in scoring at season's end since Rickey Brown (1976-77). In addition to currently posting the highest rebounding average by a State rookie since Erick Dampier (1993-94), Gordon is only 13 assists shy of becoming just the second Bulldog freshman (joining Rich Knarr in 1972-73) to record 100 or more assists in a season.
Entering this week's action leading all SEC freshmen in scoring average, Gordon has scored in double figures in 18 of 22 games for the Bulldogs this season. The lone MSU player to start all 22 games on the year also stands second in assists and third in rebounding among the league's freshmen players for all games.
Other repeat winners of the SEC's Freshman of the Week honor this season are two-time recipients Tyrus Thomas of LSU and Georgia's Billy Humphrey. Gordon previously claimed the league's rookie honor for the weeks of Dec. 19-25 and Nov. 28-Dec. 4.
