State Falls to SMU in Women's Tennis Action

DALLAS, Texas. - Mississippi State's women's tennis team fell 5-2 to the Mustangs of SMU on Sunday at Hagger Tennis Stadium in Dallas, Texas on Sunday.

The Lady Bulldogs (0-4) posted wins at the No. 1 singles spot and captured the doubles point. The point in doubles was State's first at that spot this season. The MSU tandem of Martina Banikova and Elna de Villiers topped the SMU (6-2) duo of Georgiana Marta and Kristin Reid 8-2. MState's pairing of Renee Joseph and Daniela Juskova won 8-6 over the Mustangs Rambally sisters.

Senior Anastasia Kugakolova defeated Natalia Bubien in straight sets 6-4, 6-4. Joseph fell at No. 3 to Marta of SMU, 4-6, 6-4, 9-11. Juskova battled SMU's Reid before falling 4-6, 4-6.

The Lady Bulldogs return home to begin a five-match homestand starting Thursday, Feb. 16 at 3 p.m. against the Blazers of UAB.
