MIAMI, Fla. - Mississippi State junior golfer Amanda Mathis shot a 74 on Monday and sits in a tie for second with one round to play at the Papa Johns Collegiate. Mathis is three strokes back from the lead, which is held by South Florida's Christina Jones. Jones took over sole position of first after firing a 71 in Monday¹s second round.
As a team, the Lady Bulldogs dropped to eighth after a second round score of 309 Monday. State is only eight shots out of third where they started the day. Moving into first place after the second round was North Carolina State who shot a 287. The Wolfpack moved up 10 spots by shooting seven strokes better than second-place East Carolina.
Mathis paced the team on Monday with her +2 score and stands at 146 for the tournament. Senior Stephanie Godare stands in a tie for 15th after a second round score of 76. Toronto, Canada native Ashleigh Korzack fired a 78 Monday and stands in a tie for 39th. Sophomore Julia Huh is in a tie for 44th with a two round score of 158 while Freshman Leigh Phillips improved her score on the second day by three strokes and has a two-round total of 165.
Mississippi State will conclude play at the Papa Johns Collegiate on Tuesday with the final round set to begin at 7 a.m. CT at Don Shula¹s Golf Club.
