Big and Fast: A Combination Coaches Like

A big man with great speed is a rarity, but Haywood (TN) High School has one by the name of Alex Watkins, a 6-5, 225-pound defensive end.

Ok, how fast is he?

According to Haywood High School head coach Bart Stowe, "Alex ran a 11.1 seconds 100 meters in track."

And, according to Alex, that's what the college coaches like about him.

"They like my speed because I'm a speedy guy," he said. "I ran a 11.2 seconds 100 meters. My best 100 meters was in the high 10's."

He named the schools that are showing the most attention in him.

"The schools that are most interested in me are Ole Miss, Mississippi State," said the All-State selection. "I've been talking to Alabama a lot. Memphis offered me a scholarship, but they haven't been talking to me lately. Tennessee has been text messaging me a lot. I've talked to Clemson's coach, too."

He mentioned a scholarship offer from Memphis. Does he have any other offers?

"I've gotten offers from Mississippi State and Ole Miss," he noted.

Does he have a list of schools that he would put at the top of his list right now?

"I really don't have any favorites right now," said Alex, although he did say that he is interested in the schools that are showing serious interest in him.

Although he doesn't have any schools that have jumped to the top of his list, there are three that he is thinking about visiting during the spring and summer, one of which he visited this past weekend.

"I went to Ole Miss' Junior Day last weekend," commented Alex. "I might go to Mississippi State (March 25th Junior Day). I'm going to Alabama's spring practice. We are thinking about going to Alabama's (summer football) camp."

Keep it on for the latest Alex Watkins recruiting news.
