"On Wednesday at Mississippi State they have a recruiting meeting," said Jaron. "(MSU head) Coach (Sylvester) Croom watched the tape. And my recruiting coach, Shane Beamer, text messaged my dad (that I had the offer). Since we have church on Wednesday night where my dad works, I went up there and he told me, my brother and my mom. That's how I found out that I had gotten an offer from Mississippi State."
How did he feel when he heard that he had his first offer?
"I was really, really excited and kind of speechless," said the 6-3, 227-pounder.
And a few days later he was visiting the coaches that offered him. Was that due to the offer?
"We had already planned on coming to Mississippi State because we had received a letter in the mail saying that they were having Super Bulldog Weekend and that I was invited, along with three other people," said Jaron. "So, we decided to go."
While on campus, he had a chance to talk to Coach Croom one-on-one. Croom told him why they offered and where he will fit into their plans if he decided to cast his lot with the Bulldogs.
"I got to talk to Coach Croom for about 10 minutes. He told me that he liked me on tape but doesn't know whether he will play me at defensive end, outside linebacker or fullback," said Jaron. "He called me a tweener and didn't know where he was going to play me, but said that he liked how I presented myself."
If he had his choice, which side of the ball would he prefer to play on - offense or defense?
"If I had to pick where I want to play in college I would probably want to play on defense," said Jaron.
Where does Mississippi State fit in his recruiting picture now that he's received an offer from them and visited them twice?
"Right now Mississippi State is my number 1 school because, one, they have offered and, two, they have one major that I might want to major in and, three, it is a small school in a small town," explained Jaron. "That way you get to know people better. Plus, it's only a few hours from home."
What other schools are showing significant interest in him?
"Sunday night, around 5 o'clock, dad received a text message from Pat Washington, the receivers coach at Kansas State. He said they saw my tape and liked it and have a meeting on Tuesday. He said it might work out there, too," noted Jaron. "The linebacker coach from Missouri, Coach Stuckle, who recruits (this area) is coming to Brentwood on April 20th. Missouri has told me that if I go to their camp and measure at 6-3, they will probably offer me. Kansas has said that they are close to offering, too. Auburn is sending me letters, but I'm not sure how interested they are in me."
We know what schools are interested in him. Who is he most interested in?
"One would be Mississippi State, two would be Auburn, and Kansas State, Missouri, Kansas, and then Vanderbilt," said Jaron.
If he could rate each school high, medium and low, where would each one rate?
"Right now I've got them all medium," said Jaron.
