"I have offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss, Louisville and Houston," said Derek. "I received the offer from Houston either last week or the end of the week before that. It was a letter in the mail."

Speaking of mail, Derek definitely receives his share.

"I receive an average of 12 letters each day," said the 6-6, 300-pounder. "I take time out of my schedule to look at each letter everyday. If it's more like a personal letter I'll read it. If it's about their school I'll glance at it real quick and maybe come back to it later."

And he receives quite a few of the personal type letters.

"I get quite a few handwritten letters from Mississippi State, Miami, Houston, Ole Miss, Arkansas," said Derek, who took unofficial visits to Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Alabama this past spring. "Ole Miss keeps tabs on me a lot. They probably send me the most letters. Michigan also sends a lot. Miami has recently stepped theirs up."

And several schools also keep in touch with him with text messages.

"I receive text messages from the coaches at Mississippi State," he said. "Ole Miss. Miami. They probably send them weekly."

We know the schools that is most interested in him, but who has made his list of favorites?

"So far, at this point in time, I'm trying to keep my options open because I want to pick the school that is perfect for me," said Derek.

And like his favs, he's not ready to name the schools that he will camp at this summer.

"I know that I will go to a lot more camps than I have before, but I haven't set up anything officially," he noted. "I know that we are scheduled to go to six of seven."

Check back in about a month for the latest update on this very talented offensive lineman.
