"I committed because I like their coaching staff and the possibility of early playing time as a freshman," said the 6-4, 275-pounder. "I also want to play in the SEC."
He also had serious interest from five other schools.
"The schools that are recruiting me are Tennessee, the University of Central Florida, Virginia Tech, Indiana and Michigan State," said Korentheus. "I believe Virginia Tech is about to offer."
When did he receive his scholarship offer from Mississippi State?
"I received their offer about 3 or 4 weeks before my visit (this past weekend)," said the youngster.
Although he played on both sides of the ball last season, the MSU coaching staff wants him for one side of the ball.
"I was recruited strictly for defense," said Korentheus.
His style of play may be the reason they feel he is best suited for defense.
"My strength is I play very aggressively. I always want to get to the quarterback or running back," said Korentheus, who benches 325 pounds and squats 435.
Korentheus is Mississippi State's sixth commitment. All are projected to play on the defensive side of the line of scrimmage. The others are linebackers Tim Holloway and Archie Sims, both are from Jones County JC. Defensive ends Jonathan Williams (Mississippi Delta CC) and Jazzmen Guy (Hazlehurst HS). And defensive back prospect Damein Anderson (Hazlehurst HS).
