"I hurt my leg in the spring. They thought I would be out one month but it has been four months. I went in and they did an MRI because my leg wasn't getting any better. It kept swelling up. They said it wasn't a bone break because they had X-rayed it. The last option was an MRI, so they did that. They found a lot of fluid around my tendon. The tendon won't get any better. It is the tendon that holds up my arch and my arch is falling because the tendon is not getting any better. I can't do any agility drills because of that. You put the cast on it and that gets the swelling out and heals the tendon. I will get it taken off Thursday (June 20th) so that Dr. Linton can look at it. He will decide what to do then. He hopes the swelling will be gone so that the tendon can heal by itself."
What were your goals this past spring?
"I wanted to get better at pass-protection. That is what is hurting me right now. I was working as hard as I could on that, then this happened the first week of the spring."
What do you want to do the rest of the summer?
"I want to get this cast off, rehab and get back to training so that I can practice pass-protection drills as soon as possible."
Has the cast put you behind schedule that much?
"I'm still working in the weight room every day, but I can't do any running or lower body lifting. I can do leg curls and leg extensions but can't do squats or anything else that requires the use of my ankle."
What do you see for this team this coming season?
"As a team, I believe we are going to be a lot better. I feel that our leadership will show this year and we will work together as a team. I think that is what will put us on top."
What do you hope to achieve, individually, this coming season?
"Individually, I want to win a starting position. This is my senior year and that is what I'm trying to attain right now."
What will the offensive linemen doing to offset the loss of starting offensive tackle Derrick Thompson?
"Derrick was a key player on the offensive line. He was the best pass-blocker that we had. Coach Lewis wants us to do pass-blocking drills this session and the second session. We get that squared away, we will have a pretty good offensive line."
Thanks, Carl. And good luck this season.
