Mississippi State Calls and Visits

After receiving his first phone call from a college coach Monday, Coffeeville (MS) High School star running back Lee Chambers received his second call Tuesday. This one was from Mississippi State. Not only did they call him, but one Mississippi State coach also visited his school Wednesday.

"(Mississippi State assistant) Coach (J.B.) Grimes came in for a visit today," said Lee, who is also expecting a Friday visit to his school from the University of Miami coach Joe Pannunzio. "He told my coach how bad they wanted me and that he realized that they had fell off on my list. He and Coach Croom are coming back May 9th."

Coach Grimes also called Lee on the telephone Tuesday.

"Coach Grimes called me yesterday (Tuesday). He talked to me and my mother," said Lee. "He told me that he was reading the (May 2nd) article on Scout and he was like he didn't know it was like that. He told about the things going on and the reason he hadn't been calling. It was a personal issue and I understood that. It made me feel a whole lot better about them."

Once that was cleared up, Coach Grimes talked about a couple of other things.

"He told me how good they are going to be when I come in as a freshman," noted Lee. "He told me about a fullback that they are recruiting that will give me a big body in front of me."

Lee also talked to Mississippi State's head coach, Sylvester Croom, as well. Coach Croom went into detail about MSU's plans for Lee.

"I also talked to Coach Croom earlier yesterday right before football practice. He had texted me earlier in school and I called him right before I started football practice," said Lee. "He told me how much they love me and how bad they wanted me. He has a lot of different things he wants to do with me like kickoff return, punt return, tailback and split me out wide. He was telling me how he was going to make me his Reggie Bush. He said how USC did Reggie Bush is how they want to use me at Mississippi State."

What's his favorites list look like now? And does he still plan on committing early as he said he would do in my last interview with him?

"The order (of schools) is still the same (USM, Louisville, MSU, South Carolina, Alabama, FSU), but I talked to my mother and coach about committing early," explained Lee. "All three of us came to a decision that it's too early to commit and jump the gun off of one phone call. So, I'm kind of backing off the (early) commitment (to Southern Miss) thing."

What will he be looking for when he feels decision time is here?

"The way I look at it, the coach who talks to me the most or maybe texts me the most and shows how big of a need they have for me will make a big difference to me," said Lee. "That will probably be what determines my decision. And their depth chart at tailback and coming in and playing early."
