Big-Time Juco WR Commits to MSU

Gulf Coast (MS) Community College wide receiver Co-Eric Riley, one of the top junior college players in the nation, chose the Mississippi State Bulldogs Wednesday morning.

"I committed to Mississippi State. I always wanted to go to Mississippi State. I am very excited about this," said Co-Eric. "(MSU head) Coach (Sylvester) Croom is such a good coach. And (assistant) Coach (Melvin) Smith is a good coach, too. This morning I woke up and had on my mind that I wanted to commit to them. I was going to commit to them soon, but I didn't know it was going to be this early."

Who did he call on the MSU coaching staff?

"I called Coach Smith first. He went crazy," said Co-Eric, with a slight chuckle. "He was kind of in shock. I didn't hear anything for a couple of seconds. Then he said, 'that is great.' Then he told me to call Coach Croom. Coach Croom was excited about it, too. He said he was looking forward to giving me the ball."

The Bulldogs beat out several nationally known schools for his commitment.

"I chose Mississippi State over Florida State, LSU and South Carolina," noted Co-Eric. He also had offers from Tennessee, Ole Miss and Southern Miss.

Although it's an early decision, he's very happy he went ahead and made it.

"I know this is a good decision for me. They'll treat me right up there," explained Co-Eric. "Now, I can focus on my work and get bigger and stronger."

He's hopeful he will graduate early so that he can attend MSU next spring.

"I think I will be out in December. I plan on going to summer school both semesters," said Co-Eric.

Any chance he may reconsider his decision?

"I'm through with recruiting," he said.
