How much did you weigh when you got to State for two-a-days last August?
"I came in at 398."
Last year, you came in for two-a-days and found out you had an ACL injury. How long did you have that injury?
"I probably hurt it my junior year. I kept on playing on it and it kept getting worse and worse. I even played on it my senior season."
Didn't you have surgery during two-a-days to correct the ACL injury?
How long were you not able to work out?
"About two months. I could do some upper body workouts in the weight room."
Were you gaining or losing weight during this period?
"Gaining and losing. I would gain weight, then lose it."
When were you able to start running?
"I didn't start running until in January."
Were you still around the 398 mark when you started running?
What do you want to get your weight down to?
"I want to get down to 350 this summer."
What weight do you want to play at?
"Probably about 340."
What were your goals during spring practice?
"Learning the plays. That is what I needed to learn the most. I also wanted to get better with my technique."
Do you feel you achieved that?
"A little bit. I learned the plays, but still need to work on my technique."
What are you trying to accomplish during the summer workouts?
"Trying to get ready for two-a-days and get in game shape."
Do you feel you are accomplishing that?
"I am getting there. I still need to lose more weight and get better wind."
What do you want to accomplish, individually, this coming season?
"I want to play." [Johnny was a little hesitate after I asked this question, but when I asked him if he wanted to at least make the travel squad, he very quickly said 'I want to play'."-Gene]
