I hope all of you are enjoying the interviews with the current MSU football players and signees. I will continue the interviews the rest of the summer.
I will also be adding once-a-week pictures of the players working out all the way up to and through two-a-days.
Exciting new feature coming to Gene's Page.....
An exciting new feature to be added to Gene's Page in the next couple of weeks will be a player detail page. The player detail pages, which will be linked to each player on the roster module, will include a picture of each football player, as well as his height, weight, 40 time, current position, place of birth, high school, junior college (if applicable), classification, a bio section (will include yearly highlights and honors while at MSU as well as his high school highlights and honors.). There will also be links on the detail page to all articles written about each player. Eventually, each player, beginning with last year's high school senior recruits, will have a complete history of stories and bios, from their high school career through college and on into the NFL (if applicable). In other words, every story written about high school seniors (2002 and on) who went on to college (and the NFL if applicable) will be linked on the detail page. While the detail page will be viewable by all users, the articles, if they are premium, will only be available to premium site users. Basically, it will allow you quick access to every article ever written about a player on TheInsiders network by just clicking on one link.

After being on the hot seat just a year ago, Mississippi State head basketball coach Rick Stansbury turned the corner with his program by leading them to a 27-win season. Now, MSU fans aren't the only ones who share in the excitement of the potential of this year's team. ESPN.com's Sizzling 50 has MSU ranked 14th in their preseason rankings. Other SEC schools that made the rankings were Georgia (7th), Kentucky (8th), Alabama (13th), Florida (17th), LSU (40th) and Ole Miss (45th). Texas, the team that knocked MSU out of last year's NCAA tournament, is rated 4th. CNNSI.com rates MSU 16th in their preseason rankings. Once again Georgia (7th) is the highest ranked SEC team. Florida follows them in 9th place while Alabama comes in at 10th and Kentucky settles in at 19th. No other SEC team made their top 25. Texas is ranked 8th.
Not only is is the team receiving early season accolades but a couple of MSU players are also receiving attention. Current players Derrick Zimmerman and Mario Austin are projected as first-round draft picks in a very, very early draft projection. Although I can't remember the site on the internet that had this early projection, I believe junior Mario Austin was projected as the 24th player to be picked in the first-round while senior Derrick Zimmerman was projected to be the 28th player picked. (If anybody remembers the site please email it to me.)
While this season looks very, very promising, the foreseeable future of MSU basketball also looks very promising due to the recent signing of All Big-12 honorable mention selection Shane Power and national recruit Travis Outlaw's commitment.
Folks, get ready to see the Hump rocking this year and the next few years. If you aren't already on the bandwagon, you had better hurry because it will fill up fast.
If you didn't see my recent premium baseball skuttle-butt, then you missed some outstanding news about MSU's redshirt freshmen and a few other current players.
Thomas Berkery, a redshirt freshman catcher/third baseman, is leading the Coastal Plain League in homers with 6. Batting .266, he also has 21 RBIs in 24 games. Thomas has also thrown out 40% of the runners who attempted to steal on him. Another redshirt freshman catcher, Craig Tatum, is also doing well, hitting .327 in 17 games in the Shenandoah Valley League. Like Thomas, Craig has a cannon for an arm. Sophomore catcher/DH J.B. Tucker is also having an outstanding summer batting .455 in 8 games.
Position players aren't the only ones doing well this summer. RHP Robby Goodson, playing in the Shenandoah Valley League, has not allowed a run in 8 innings of relief pitching. He has a 3-0 record with 2 saves. Sophomore RHP Saunders Ramsey, adapting well to his new delivery, has recorded 6 saves and a 1-1 record in 12 appearances while playing in the CICL. He has a 1.35 earned run average. Veteran LHP Steven Dowe, playing in the Coastal Plain League, has also performed extremely well, recording a 2-0 record with 5 saves. Sophomore LHP Todd Nicholas, playing in the Coastal Plain League, has a 2-2 record and a 3.18 earned run average. Although his overall record doesn't reflect it, redshirt freshman LHP Jake Ociesa (Clark Griffith League) is having a a good summer. In his last two outing, Jake threw 13 innings, allowing 9 hits, 4 walks, and 3 earned runs while striking out 11. In contrast, he allowed 10 earned runs in 11.2 innings in his first two outings.
Gene's Page baseball bonus.....
In the upcoming weeks, I plan on contacting all of the Mississippi State baseball signees for interviews. In the interviews I will find out how they did during the spring, how they are doing during the summer and why they decided on Mississippi State as their college of choice.
While testing usernames for a few of you, I noticed that almost all of you haven't removed the maroon NEW graphic to the left of each message on the message board. It's really easy to remove them. All you need to do is click on the MARK ALL FORUMS READ link on the message board just above the message board threads and just below the message board advertising banners. When you do that, it removes all the NEW graphics on the left-hand side of each message. If you do that prior to leaving the message board, you will be able to identify new messages the next time you visit the message board because they will be the only messages with the NEW graphics beside them.
