Mike Brown to be a Bulldog

University of Florida transfer Mike Brown, one of the most highly recruited linemen in the nation out of high school, has decided to cast his lot with the Mississippi State Bulldogs.

Mike, who had scholarship offers from schools across the nation including most of the SEC and ACC schools coming out of high school, explained why he chose Mississippi State this time around.

"Really, my mom got sick since I left high school and there weren't many schools that I considered (this time). And I just wanted to be close to my mom, so I could come back home if I needed to," said the 6-5, 304-pounder who was rated the 40th best player in the southeast by TheInsiders (now called Scout.com) as a senior in high school. "Since high school I wanted to play SEC ball and (MSU assistant) Coach (Guy) Holliday recruited me very hard out of high school. And once he found out that I was transferring, he told me that he would love to have me down in Mississippi. I came and checked it out (last) Wednesday. And (MSU head) Coach (Sylvester) Croom is my type coach. He seems like he is hard, but he is fair."

What was the MSU coaches reaction when he told them he was going to be a Bulldog?

"They were pretty excited and ready for me to go on and get it started," he said. And that appears to be exactly what he plans on doing.

"I think I will at Mississippi State the first summer session. If not the first, definitely the second," explained Mike, who will have to sit out next fall due to transfer rules.

Mike played on both the offensive and defensive lines while in high school. Where will he play at State?

"I will be playing offensive tackle," he noted. And that's fine with him. "I'll play any position, but Coach Croom kind of sees me fitting in at offensive tackle."

After sitting out this coming season, Mike will have two years to play two.
