"(Former MSU football player) Davey Crawley was on me as soon as I quit at Holmes (Community College) and came here. I told him I was through (with football) and wasn't going to play anymore. He brought some walk-on papers to my house and I filled them out and turned them in. I came out for the spring (of 2001) and did a pretty good job and earned a scholarship."
Yeah, I remember coach Sherrill talked about how well you and Scott Goldberg did on special teams that spring.
Cody, talk about your objectives going into spring practice.
"My objectives, because we got a new (position) coach, was to learn a new system. Basically, he changed the way we play such as our stance. We went from being open to back pedaling. That was a big change. My objective was to pick that up as fast as possible. And also to learn our defense better."
Do you feel you achieved your objectives?
"Yeah, I think I did. My back was hurting most of the spring, so I didn't get to practice as much as I hoped."
What did you do the first part of the summer?
"I trained with my cousin who played football at Ole Miss. His name is Roger Hancock. I was trying to get in the best shape that I could so that I could push for playing time during two-a-days."
What do you hope for this team this coming season?
"I hope that we come together and go undefeated and win the SEC. Then go to a big bowl game."
What do you hope to accomplished individually this coming season?
"I want to get on as many special teams as possible and push for as much playing time as possible."
When will you graduate?
"I only have 18 hours and plan to graduate in December. But I'm going to stay in school all year. I'm majoring in Food and Nutrition Diatetics. I may go to graduate school in the School of Business. I'm not really sure."
