Bures, Guess Excelling in Summer SB League

STARKVILLE, Miss. All-American shortstop Courtney Bures and centerfielder Hayle Guess are both excelling this summer as members of the Stratford Brakettes, a 26-time ASA women's major fastpitch national championship team located in Connecticut.

Through 10 games of the current campaign, Guess is hitting at an eye-popping .406 (13-for-32) average with a trio of extra-base hits, four walks and a team-best 12 runs scored. The Moss Point, Miss., native also has three multi-hit games to her credit, including a pair of three-hit outings.

In just four games, Bures, a rising junior all-American shortstop for Mississippi State, is pacing the Brakettes with a .538 (7-for-13) batting average that complements a pair of extra-base hits, five RBI and five runs scored. Bures missed the first six games of the season while she attended the USA Softball World University Games selection camp earlier this month.

Bures will likely miss 14 games with the Brakettes in the month of July when she travels to Taiwan, July 15-23, with Team USA for the World University Games. MSU head coach Jay Miller will accompany Bures to Taiwan as well as a member of the USA coaching staff.
