"No, he actually tried to talk me into not coming here because of all the stuff that would be going on. I think he was just saying that. In all actuality, I think he was just saying that and really wanted to come here because of the aerospace program and because I would be playing here. He knows how hard these guys work and he probably wants me to be just like that."
Talk a little more about the reasons you chose to walk-on at Mississippi State.
"Well, I have been around the program going on 12 years now. I've come up here ever summer. I've gone to games and come up here for Christmas. I have been around the team for so many years, I felt like I was already a part of Mississippi State University. I could have walked on at say UT or A&M or gotten a partial scholarship to go to Rice, but none of those places interested me. I thought about UT, but coming here felt much better and the right thing to do."
We talked a little about your dad and if he really wanted you to come to State. Talk a little more about that.
"I think my dad was really trying to test me to see if this was really what I wanted to do. I could tell he was being half-hearted and really didn't mean that. After I made the decision to come here, I think his feelings really showed because he was really happy for me."
Since you are his son, he may be a little harder on you than the other guys.
"Of course he will be a harder on me. He will probably be twice as hard on me as anybody else. He is already working hard on me to have a 4.0 in school."
What are you majoring in?
"Aerospace engineering. I have always been interested in airplanes and that field. I may change it to Business or Math or something dealing with Economics or Math later on, but that is what I want to do now."
