Mississippi's Best Available Prospects

Time and time again the Magnolia state of Mississippi is a frequent stop for college recruiters. Despite several vebal commitments from some of the state's top prep talent, the cupboard is far from bare.

This week we will break down some of the top high school prospects in the state with division one offers that remain uncommitted.

1. Derek Sherrod

Caledonia's Derek Sherrod is arguably the top offensive line prospect Mississippi has to offer for the 2007 signing class. Derek has offers from Florida, Houston, Louisville, Miami, Michigan, Mississippi State, Notre Dame and Ole Miss.

COMMITTED: Mississippi State

2. Antwon Dixon

Terry High School's Antwon Dixon is a two-way player for the Bulldogs and is just about as good on the offensive side of the ball as he is on defense. Antwon likes to hit and is projected as a safety on the next level. Dixon has offers from in-state rivals Mississippi State and Ole Miss.

Dixon currently has a top five of Alabama, Auburn, LSU, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. He appears to be in no hurry to make a decision as he says he may not announce until just before signing day.

3. Johnathan Frink

Oxford High School counts their blessings to have a player as talented as Frink patrolling the defense. Frink is one of the best linebackers you will find in Mississippi.

Johnathan currently has offers from Indiana, Kentucky, Memphis, Mississippi State, Oklahoma State, Ole Miss, Rice, South Carolina, Southern Miss and Stanford. Frink has held his cards close to his chest, but recently named Ole Miss as his leader.

4. Marcus Green

Kemper County athlete Marcus Green may be the best pure football talent in the state. Green plays Quarterback and returns kicks in high school, but is expected to play safety in college.

Green currently has offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss.

COMMITTED: Mississippi State

5. Colton Jenkins

Jenkins plays tight end at Winona High school, but projects as an offensive tackle in college. Jenkins plays hard and with a pretty big mean streak.

Colton has offers from Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Southern Miss.

COMMITTED: Mississippi State

6. Rashod Henry

Lumberton High school offered up the Mississippi player of the year in Terry Grant last season. Believe it or not Henry is even faster than Grant. Henry projects as a corner at the next level and has the speed and swagger to play it very well.

Henry claims offers from Alabama, Memphis, Mississippi State and Ole Miss. He currently has Mississippi State as a firm leader.

7. Darrius Young

Shannon, MS continues to produce quality talent. This year's offering, Darrius Young, is considered by some as the top wide receiver in the state.

Darrius has offers from Alabama, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Ole Miss and Tennessee. Young has had a consistent top two of Alabama and Ole Miss.

8. K.J. Wright

Explosive product from Olive Branch High School. Extremely athletic prospect that is mainly being recruited as a defensive end. Wright is a bit on the thin side, but has the frame to pile on some weight.

K.J. has been offered by Arkansas, Mississippi State, Ole Miss, South Carolina and Southern Miss. Wright lists no favorites and considers himself wide open.

9. Ra'Shad McGill

Named one of the top offensive line products at the the Scout.com All-American combine in Oxford. Has a mean streak and plays with a lot of confidence.

Ra'Shad currently has offers from Colorado and Houston. A handful of other schools appear to be on the verge of offering. McGill claimed recently that Houston has a slight lead over Oklahoma State and Colorado.

10. Le'Marcus Gibson

Named to the 2nd team All-Combine team at the Scout.com All-American combine in Tuscaloosa. Gibson plays with a tremendous amount of passion. Works very hard in the weight room.

Gibson currently has offers from Louisiana Tech and Houston. If he was an inch or two taller he would probably have several more offers.

Just missed the list:

Cortez Myles

Dallas Walker

Cory Bailey

We project that a handful of these names will not be so available in the coming weeks. Which ones? Stay with scout.com to find out.
