"Kodi Augustus has committed to Mississippi State," said AAU Houston Superstars' head coach John Eurey. "(MSU assistant coach) Robert Kirby recruited him. I've known Kirby for 12 years. I knew he wanted him and I knew it was a great situation. He wanted to play in the SEC and get a chance to play right away. He also wanted to play where he would get the chance to play on tv and play close to his parents."
Kodi mentioned several other things that factored into his decision.
"The head coach is a really nice guy. I liked Coach Kirby and the facilities that they have," said Kodi, who averaged 18 points, 7 rebounds and 5 blocks per shot last season while playing for Willow Ridge in Houston, Texas. "I also like their tradition and the program that they have been running."
He explained what the MSU coaches liked about his game after seeing him play this summer in various AAU events across the country.
"I made a lot of threes, probably three a game. I rebound well and play hard," said Kodi.
Coach Eurey went into a little more detail about what kind of player Kodi is.
"Kodi is a 6-9 wing guy, 2/3, who is a really, really strong shooter who can either go to the basket or put it on the floor," said Eurey. "He's also a really good kid."
Kodi, who previously played for Tara High School in Baton Rouge, chose Mississippi State over offers and/or iinterest from the likes of Arkansas, Oklahoma, Cincinnati, Texas, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Tennessee, Miami, LSU, Florida, Missouri, Georgetown, Maryland, Illinois, Southern Cal and Nevada.
