Paxton Pace (5-10, 180), who plays for West Lauderdale (MS) High School, committed to Mississippi State Tuesday night, a school that he has been a fan of for many years.

"I've committed to Mississippi State," said Paxton.

He explained why he chose Mississippi State over an offer from Southern Miss.

"I've just always wanted to play for Mississippi State. I've always been a State fan and I've always wanted to play in the SEC," said Paxton, who has hit .400 and .436 with a cumulative pitching record of 16-2 the past two seasons. "I really like the coaches and one of my teammates, (MSU commitment) Cody Freeman, is going up there. And they turn out really big crowds."

Paxton told MSU assistant coach Tommy Raffo the good news Tuesday night.

"(MSU assistant) Coach (Tommy) Raffo was excited," said Paxton. "He said they've been thinking about (me) for awhile and were wondering what (I was going to do)."

Paxton, while he enjoyed the recruiting process, is happy it's over.

"I did a lot of thinking about it, a lot. It's the most stress that I've been under as a 17-year old," said the two-time MAC All-State selection and Clarion-Ledger All-State selection.

Paxton joins teammate Cody Freeman, Forrest Moore and Michael Busby on the Bulldog commitment list.
