CHASKA, Minn. - Mississippi State golfer Greg Huxman opened the 2006 U.S. Amateur with a four-over par round of 75 on the Chaska Town Course in Chaska, Minn. Huxman will test the host course of the championship, Hazeltine National Golf Club, on Tuesday.
The field will be trimmed to the top 64 players after the second round of stroke play. Match play competition will begin on Wednesday. The MSU senior will begin second-round competition at 1:25 CST on No. 10 at Hazeltine.
The Miami, Fla. native found trouble on the course on No. 4 and No. 5 where he posted back-to-back bogeys. He closed out the front nine with a birdie at the par-5 ninth. Huxman's only other red figure on the scorecard came on No. 15, a 496-yard, par 5.

The winner of the U.S. Amateur receives an invitation to play in the Masters at Augusta National in April 2007.
