Cross Country
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State's cross country programs will take part in the 51st running of the Notre Dame Invitational in South Bend, Ind. on Friday, Sept. 29. A total of 54 schools will compete in either the Blue Division or the Gold Division at the Notre Dame nine-hole golf course.

The Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs will be competing in the Blue Division of the event. The ladies portion of the meet will get underway at 3:15 p.m. CST while the men's section is pegged for a 4 p.m. CST start time. The Notre Dame Invitational is one of the nation's oldest and largest intercollegiate cross country meets.

MState is coming off impressive finishes in the previous meet in Tuscaloosa, Ala. in the Crimson Classic. Women's head coach Al Schmidt's squad will seek its third-straight win of the 2006 campaign. The Lady Bulldogs won the Sewanee Invite to open the season and followed that feat with a win at the University of Alabama. The Bulldogs, coached by Steve Dudley, had an outstanding meet at the Crimson Classic, posting a second-place finish in the 8K run.

Friday's meet will provide the stiffest competition to date for the MSU squads. A total of 14 ranked teams in the U.S. Track & Field/Cross Country Coaches Association's men's and women's polls will compete in the meet. In 2005, State finished 22nd in the men's race while the women placed 24th. The women have participated in the Notre Dame event every year since 2001 and finished in the top-15 four times during the span.

Joining MSU in the Women's Blue Division include: Army, Columbia, Florida, #29 Florida State, #27 Georgia, #7 Illinois, #3 Michigan, Missouri, #25 North Carolina, #12 North Carolina State, Notre Dame, Ohio University, #16 Providence, Purdue, Southern Methodist, Texas A&M, UAB and Weber State. The Men's Blue Division include: Army, Belmont, Colgate, #28 Eastern Michigan, #26 Florida, #24 Florida State, Illinois, Indiana State, #15 Michigan, Navy, North Carolina, North Carolina State, #16 Notre Dame, #27 Providence, Purdue, South Alabama, Texas A&M, Weber State and #1 Wisconsin.

STARKVILLE, MISS. - Mississippi State junior forward Treena Ferguson was named to Soccer Buzz Magazine's Elite Team of the Week as well as to the Soccer Times Honor Roll, announced Wednesday. These are the first such honors of Ferguson's career, and she the first Bulldog to receive the honors this year.

Ferguson helped lead the Bulldogs (2-7-0, 1-1-0) to a 1-1 record on the weekend, scoring six points on three goals. Friday night in MSU's 3-2 loss to Georgia, she scored the goal that put MSU up 2-1. On Sunday, the Sarnia, Ontario, Canada native scored twice, including the match-winning goal, as State upset No. 8 Tennessee, 3-2. The junior has set a new MSU record, scoring in four consecutive games. Ferguson has six goals over that span.

Ferguson has started eight of State's nine games, and is second in the conference with seven goals. She is also tied for second with 14 points.

The Sarnia, Ontario, Canada native is the first Bulldog to be named to the Soccer Buzz Elite Team of the Week since Luisa Marzotto, November 6, 2003. She is also the first player in MSU history to earn Soccer Times Honor Roll status.

STARKVILLE, MISS. - The Mississippi State (2-7-0, 1-1-0) soccer team looks to build on last week's SEC opening split when it closes out its seven-game homestand this weekend.

MSU will host SEC West Division rivals LSU (6-4-1, 1-0-1) on Friday night at 7:00 p.m., followed by a Sunday afternoon match against Arkansas (7-2-0, 0-1-0) at 1:00 p.m. Both matches will be at the MSU Soccer Field.

State is 2-8-1 all-time against LSU. The Tigers defeated MSU last year, 2-0 in Baton Rouge. MState is looking to snap a 209:10 scoreless streak against LSU. The Bulldogs follow Friday night's contest with a game against Arkansas. The Lady Razorbacks hold a 9-2-0 record all-time versus Mississippi State, and have won the last three.

Reigning SEC Player of the Week Treena Ferguson is currently second in the conference with seven goals. She is also tied for third with 14 points.

Junior Stephanie Dallas currently leads the conference with 5.83 saves per game and is sixth with 35 saves. During Friday night's match, five autographed soccer balls will be given away. Following the match, the team will hold an autograph session. You can also follow all the action live at
