PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. - Three Mississippi State Lady Bulldog tennis tandems fell in the first day of action at the SEC Fall Coaches Classic in Peachtree City, Ga., amidst cold weather conditions late Thursday afternoon and into the night.
Starting off play for State in the A draw, Martina Banikova and Valeriya Makarycheva dropped their first-round match 8-4 against Megan Alexander and Alex Liles of Florida. In consolation play, the tandem fell in an 8-2 decision to Alabama's duo of Andrea Brenes and Sofia Ayala.
After receiving a first-round bye, the State duo of Elna de Villiers and Renee Joseph fell short to Auburn's Kelly Adams and Jil Hastenrath 8-6 in the B Draw. Also in the B Draw, Tatiana Feit and Daniela Juskova fell 8-4 to Georgia's Kelley Hyndman and Naoka Ueshima in the first round.
The weekend's singles play will start Friday at 9 a.m. CT with two rounds of play. Banikova will start the day against South Carolina's Ana Zubori in the A draw. Joseph will meet Georgia's Kelley Hyndman in the B Draw.
In the C Draw, Juskova will battle Kentucky's Carolina Winebrenner, de Villiers will take on Liberty Sveke of Vanderbilt, and Makarycheva will meet Alabama's Nicole Briceno. Rounding out MSU's contingent will be Feit, who will match up in the D Draw against Adrienne Elsberry of Georgia.
