"I've committed to Memphis," said Cody. "I committed (Sunday) while on my visit there this weekend. I actually committed right before we left Sunday. (Head) Coach (Tommy) West, my offensive line coach and my recruiting coach and I were eating breakfast. I went ahead and told them I would be there. They were really excited."

After receiving recruiting calls from Memphis, UAB, Southern Miss, Arkansas State, New Mexico and Ole Miss, Cody narrowed it down to two schools.

"It pretty much came down to New Mexico and Memphis, but I really didn't want to go that far away (to New Mexico)," said Cody, who had planned on visiting New Mexico this coming weekend but has now cancelled that visit.

He explained what factors led to his commitment other than the distance.

"They were tops on my list going into my visit," noted Cody. "Memphis has been talking to me and recruiting me since I've been out of high school. And I felt good about everything during the visit. The coaches have been great and all the players are great. It just seemed like a good fit for me due to how close to home it is."
