STARKVILLE, Miss. - Mississippi State freshmen guard Alexis Rack and forward Bethany Washington have been named Southeastern Conference Co-Freshmen of the Week, as announced by the league office in Birmingham today.
Rack, a native of Franklin, La., led MState in the 73-71 win over archrival Mississippi on Sunday with 18 points, including two free throws with 14 seconds to go to give MSU a 71-68 lead. She also brought down a season-high seven rebounds and dished out four assists on the day. The win over UM marks the second time in as many years the Lady Bulldogs have beaten the Lady Rebels on their home floor. Against Kentucky on Thursday, Rack was one of five Lady Bulldogs to score in double digits, tallying 10 points in the win.
Washington scored nine points in the win over the Lady Rebels and was critical in MSU's victory on Thursday evening at Kentucky. The Houma, La.-native scored the game-tying basket with 1.9 seconds left on the clock to force overtime in Lexington. MState went on to out-score UK 8-0 in the second overtime to pick up the 83-75 win. Washington ended the game with a season-high 16 points and two blocks.
The Lady Bulldogs return to action Thursday evening, hosting Arkansas in an 8 p.m. televised contest from Humphrey Coliseum.
