Interest in Newsom Growing

While most of the talk these days about Okolona (MS) High School is centered around one of the nation's top running backs, Robert Elliott, Robert's not the only talented athlete at Okolona High. Jeremy Newsom, one of the elite junior basketball players in the state of Mississippi, is bringing a lot of limelight to the town as well.

"I have been getting a lot of interest from Virginia Tech, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and North Carolina State since we last talked," said the 6-8 Newsom. "They are sending about a letter a week. I also got some from Alabama, too. They have sent me some brochures and want me to look at their campus."

And it looks like coaches will begin coming in to watch him soon.

"I haven't seen any (college) coaches come in and watch me, but my coach said an assistant coach from Ole Miss has called," noted Jeremy. "He wanted to come watch me practice one day. North Carolina State has also called."

As for favorites, Jeremy is most interested in five and would like to hear more from a sixth.

"I like North Carolina State, Mississippi State, Ole Miss and Virginia Tech. I also like Alabama. Those are my top five," said Jeremy. "I'm also interested in LSU, but I've only gotten one letter from them."

You can see Jeremy and his teammates play against East Oktibbeha High School at East Oktibbeha Saturday night. Until then, check out this season's video of Jeremy on
