STARKVILLE , Miss. - Mississippi State's Lady Bulldog tennis team opens up its 2007 campaign hosting No. 44-ranked Colorado and UAB this weekend [Feb. 2 & 4] at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre. The match with CU's Buffaloes is set for 2 p.m. on Friday, while Sunday's contest against the Blazers of UAB is slated for 1 p.m.

MSU initiated the spring slate at the Georgia Invitational Jan. 19-21, where Martina Banikova and Valeriya Makarycheva led the squad with two singles wins each at the event. Elna de Villiers enters the spring with a team-best doubles record of 7-5. Pairing up with Renee Joseph, the tandem has posted a 5-2 record.

The match versus Colorado will serve as the first ever meeting between the two schools. Colorado enters the weekend fresh off a 6-1 upset win over then-#34 Arizona at home a week ago. Earlier that week, the Buffaloes took a 7-0 road win at Air Force to kick off their season.

Sunday, the Lady Bulldogs will match-up against UAB. It will mark the 21st meeting versus the Blazers with State leading the series 18-3. MSU claimed a 6-1 win in last season's meeting.

Following this weekend's action, the Lady Bulldogs will continue the home stand hosting Southern [Feb. 8] and Troy [Feb. 10] at the A.J. Pitts Tennis Centre.
