Beamer Takes South Carolina Job

Mississippi State head Coach Sylvester Croom confirmed Tuesday afternoon that wide receivers coach Shane Beamer is leaving the Bulldog program after accepting a position at the University of South Carolina.

Beamer, 29, coached running backs this past season after two years working with defensive backs. He was part of the original staff brought to Mississippi State by Coach Croom in 2004.

Beamer's specific role with the Gamecocks was not announced. Calls to his home and cell phone were not answered.

This is latest change to both staff and assignments for 2007 for Croom. In January, after releasing original staff members Guy Holliday and Amos Jones, he hired Charlie Harbison and Pat Washington as new coaches. Their specific jobs were to be announced next week, prior to the February 26 start of spring practices. Croom said this latest departure complicates the process, but that all roles will be settled before the Bulldogs open their camp.
