"Basically, I wanted to play hard. It is like a war out there in the trenches and I'm a little lightweight (257 pounds). I like being smaller and don't want to get any bigger. I really like this size."
Was it your quickness that worked for you against their offensive linemen?
"I just focused on hustling and playing low."
What was it about Oregon's offensive line? I know the other defensive linemen didn't have many recorded tackles. Were they holding?
"All offensive linemen hold (laugh). They were just a strong team. Their offensive line was really strong, but they weren't stronger than I expected. I expected it to be a competition out there. They are a good team and I expected them to come out and play their best."
What did your position coach say about your performance?
"Coach (John) Hendrick said I played pretty good and have gotten better. I feel like I am getting better. My confidence level has changed. I feel like I can play against anybody now."
Talk a little about the attitude of the team since the loss.
"Everybody have their heads up. It was one bad loss that we took. It was the first game. I think that our intensity could have been better, but the next game we will come out and play to win. We have 11 more games left."
The team didn't know until Thursday that Kevin Fant wouldn't play. How much do you think that affected the team's morale?
"We needed Kevin out there, but I think that Kyle (York) did a great job. I didn't worry about it. I put all my trust in God. I knew that if Kevin was out, Kyle could take care of it."
At least you guys know you have a very solid player backing up Kevin.
"Oh yeah. Right now, I know if Kevin goes out, Kyle can come in and play well. He was confident and didn't back down from anybody. I liked his style."
Did you guys not know he had anxiety attacks all the way up to the game?
"No, I didn't know that. He held it in really well. I thought he was ready to play. He did a great job hiding it."
Are you guys ready to have Oregon come to Scott Field?
"Oh, yes. I can't wait. I can't wait until they come to StarkVegas."
