"I was trying to go out there and show the team that I could handle the offense. I went out and had a good spring until I got the thigh bruise. I rehabbed for about two weeks, then came back and twisted my ankle. I could have played but coach wanted me to sit the last scrimmage out.
"As for the team, the offensive line looked good and Kevin (Fant) was throwing the ball well and the receivers caught the ball well."
Talk about your summer.
"I had some family problems the first part of the summer and had to be in Jackson a lot. During the second part of the summer, I tried to work hard and prove to the other players that I could carry the load this year."
What are your hopes for this team this season?
"My hopes for this team is not to go 3 and 8 again. I want us to get a bowl game. I want us to go to the SEC Championship Game, because I have never been there. I hope the young guys will come in and help us out. I also hope the offense and defense will come together as a team. That is one of the reasons we are doing things together as a team."
I've noticed that you guys are doing more things together as a team.
"I see that too. Last year, we really didn't have that. We had a lot of individuals. This year, we are trying to do things as a team. We don't want another 3 and 8 season. I really think this is going to be our year."
What are you hoping for, individually?
"I would like to get 1,000 yards. I want to go out and give my all to help this team."
You are a senior this year. Has it all been worth it the past three years?
"It has been worth it. I've had great backs to compete with. First, was Dicenzo (Miller). We competed against each other everyday. Now, I've got Fred Reid and the young boys (Jerious Norwood and Nick Turner). They are going to be alright."
