MOBILE, Ala. - Sophomore Noah Goldman paced the Mississippi State men's golf team on the opening day of the 2007 University of South Alabama Spring Classic at Herron Lakes Country Club in the Mobile, Ala. area. Goldman fired an opening round 1-under par 71 and carded a 75 in the second round. As a team, the Bulldogs are in 11th place after registering rounds of 297 and 301.
The Longwood, Fla.-product stands tied for 23rd after 36 holes of competition. He enters Tuesday's final round seeking his third top-20 finish. In the first round, Goldman made the turn with a 1-under par 35 and played the back nine at even par. Sophomore Carlos Sainz, Jr. posted a round of 75 in the first round, but led all MState golfers in the second round with a 1-over 73. He currently stands 30 th on the individual leaderboard. Brian Mason and Matt Fast finished day one of the 54-hole event tied for 45th.
Chattanooga leads the tournament field at 11-under par with rounds of 288 and 277. UTC's Derek Rende sits atop the individual board after firing a 63, the low-round of the day.
The Maroon and White will close out competition in the event on Tuesday with competition beginning at 8 a.m. CST .
