Men's Golf
MOBILE, Ala. - Mississippi State's men's golf team closed out competition at the 2007 University of South Alabama Spring Classic on Tuesday with a round of 293. The score posted by the squad ties a spring-season best. MSU finished 10th in the field and had two individuals place in the top-25.

Carlos Sainz, Jr. led State on the final day with a 1-under par 71 while sophomore Noah Goldman posted a 2-over par 73 en route to a 21st –place finish alongside Sainz, Jr. Brian Mason fired a 74 to complete the 54-hole event in 40th. Mason registered a 2-over par round in the first and third rounds. Jake Lambert closed out the MState scorecard with a 75.

Chattanooga eased to the team title with a final round score of 282. The Mocs claimed the event at 17-under par. Southeastern Louisiana and host-South Alabama finished runner-up at 5-under par. UTC's Derek Rende took home medalist honors, winning by three strokes over Ian Rochester of Memphis.

The Maroon and White will be back in action on Monday, April 9, taking part in the Palisades Golf Classic held in Charlotte, N.C.

Men's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. - MSU junior Ivan Bjelica has been named this week's Southeastern Conference men's tennis player of the week announced by the league office on Tuesday. Bjelica, currently ranked 39th nationally, won three matches and helped the Bulldogs earn two upset victories this past weekend at home against Kentucky and Vanderbilt.

On Friday, Bjelica topped Kentucky's 88th-ranked Bruno Agostinelli 6-2, 6-2 which gave MSU a 3-1 lead in the match. On Sunday, Bjelica and partner Philippe Frayssinoux were victorious at #1 doubles which clinched the doubles point for State. Bjelica followed by defeating Vanderbilt's 63rd-ranked Ryan Preston 6-1, 7-5 at #1 singles, clinching the win for the Bulldogs. Currently, Bjelica is 22-10 overall in singles this season. The Belgrade, Serbia, native has won six consecutive singles matches and nine of his last ten. With the two wins this weekend, Bjelica also moved to 10-1 this season at the #1 singles position and is now 5-1 in conference play.

The honor for Bjelica marks the 11th time a Bulldog has won the award since it was initiated for tennis in 2000. He joins Jeremy Bayon, Marco Baron, Rene-Charles Combette, Romain Ambert, Luiz Carvalho, Florent Girod and Pierre Mouillon who have earned the honor.

Bjelica and the rest of the Bulldogs will be back in action Friday, traveling to Fayetteville, Ark., to face Arkansas in a 2 p.m. match. State will then return home to face LSU on Sunday at 1 p.m. in conjunction with Super Bulldog Weekend on the MSU campus.
