Friday Kickoff Likely For Egg Bowl

For six years the game was played on Thanksgiving night. And since 2004 it has been contested on a more typical Saturday date. Now it looks as if the Battle for the Golden Egg will move around the holiday weekend again.

Mississippi State athletic director Larry Templeton told reporters this evening that the 2007 home game with Ole Miss will probably be scheduled for the Friday following Thanksgiving. Kickoff would be at noon central time at Scott Field.

This edition of the 'Egg Bowl' is moving for regional telecast on Lincoln Financial Sports. LFS normally shows Saturday SEC games with a 11:30 CT kickoff. But this year CBS, the main SEC broadcast partner, plans to air two league games including one in LFS's timeslot.

Templeton also told reporters that he still expects the home game with Jacksonville State to be played as planned, on September 22. He did not speak with his counterpart at JSU Friday, but based on previous conversations Templeton believes the signed contract will be honored. JSU has a guarantee of $300,000 to come to Starkville for the non-conference game, and would have to pay a $150,000 penalty if they did not honor the contract.
