WALNUT, Calif. - Mississippi State sophomore Marrissa Harris finished second in the women's 100-meter hurdles on the final day of competition at the Mt. SAC Relays on Sunday. The Memphis, Tenn.-native also finished in the top-10 of the long jump event.

Harris improved her NCAA Regional qualifying time in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 13.71 seconds. She posted her second qualifying mark of the season in the long jump with a mark of 19 feet, 11 and half inches.

"She (Marrissa) improved her NCAA mark in the hurdles," said MSU head coach Al Schmidt. "All in all, I think it was a pretty good trip put here and a pretty good weekend for us at the Ole Miss meet."

Senior Nicola Wilson competed in the invitational section of women's shot put at the west coast event and finished as the top collegiate competitor with a toss of 47-02 ½ . The Trenton, N.J.-product now owns four of the top five shot put marks in the MState record books.

The full squad returns to action on Saturday, April 21 at the Auburn Invitational.

STARKVILLE, Miss. - Coming off its first series defeat in a month, Mississippi State (27-19, 9-10 SEC) looks to get back on the right track with two midweek, non-conference games. The Bulldogs will host UAB Tuesday, April 17 at 6 p.m. (CT). The following day, MSU will travel to Mississippi Valley State for a 6 p.m. (CT) game. Admission for all MSU softball games is free. Mississippi State leads the all-time series with UAB, 7-1. In Starkville, MSU leads 3-1, while in Birmingham, the Bulldogs hold a 4-0 advantage. The teams have never met on a neutral field. MSU has outscored the Blazers, 48-11. The teams met earlier this year. State won a 5-0 decision in Birmingham. MSU has won the last five meetings.

The Bulldogs lead the all-time series with Mississippi Valley State, 8-0. The entire series has been played in Starkville. This marks the first time MSU travels to Itta Bena. State has outscored the Devilettes, 77-5. Earlier this year, the Bulldogs defeated MVSU, 10-2 in five innings.

Freshman Chelsea Bramlett continues to make her mark in her short collegiate career. The Cordova, Tenn. native currently leads the conference in stolen bases with 41, which is tied for the MSU single-season record. She is also third in runs (46) and hits (63), seventh with a .401 batting average, and ninth in on-base percentage (.447).

Kelli Miller leads the Bulldogs from the mound with an 11-8 record and a 1.62 ERA. In 108.0 innings of work, the senior has struck out 54 batters. Kelsey Nurnberg is 7-2 with a 2.29 ERA and 39 strikeouts in 82.2 innings of work.

The Blazers are coming off a weekend that saw them drop two of three games at Central Florida. As a team, UAB is hitting .253 with 42 doubles and 24 home runs. The Blazers have also stolen 41 bases in 51 attempts. Offensively, UAB is led by Lindsay Stanley. The senior is hitting .362 with 26 runs and 11 RBI. Holly Krzan is hitting .295 with 13 doubles and 31 RBI. Andrea Rogers leads the team with 12 home runs.

From the pitching circle, UAB is led primarily by two pitchers. Jennifer Nelson leads the team with an 18-10 record and a 1.35 ERA. She also has 26 complete games, while striking out 227 batters. Kayla Harris is 7-9 with a 2.56 ERA and 72 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .229 against Blazer pitching.

The Devilettes are coming off a weekend that saw them sweep a three-game series from Alabama A&M. As a team, MVSU is hitting .260 with 51 doubles and 18 home runs. Mississippi Valley State has also stolen 42 bases in 54 attempts. Offensively, MVSU is led by Candy Shumpert. The senior is hitting .341 with six home runs, eight doubles and 14 RBI. She has also crossed the plate 18 times.

From the pitching circle, the Devilettes are led by Nicole Henderson. She leads the team with an 8-4 record and a 2.02 ERA. She also has nine complete games, while striking out 86 batters. Nikki Stouder is 7-7 with a 3.05 ERA and 64 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting .278 against MVSU pitching.

Following this week's action, the Bulldogs will head to Georgia to face the Bulldogs. The teams will play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 21 at 1 p.m. (CT). The series concludes the following day with a single game at 1 p.m. (CT).
