July 4-Mississippi Juco Sports News

BOONEVILLE, Miss. - Perhaps the biggest week of the year for the Northeast Mississippi Community College football program, besides the opening week of the season in late August, is the second week of July. That's when the Tigers host three of their most important summer camps, as well as a benefit golf scramble.

This coming Saturday, July 7, NEMCC will hold it's annual 7-on-7 passing tournament for local high school teams. The tournament will begin at 9:00 a.m. Saturday morning at Keenum Stadium on the Northeast campus and the adjacent practice field. There is room in the tournament field for more teams to enter. Cost to participate is $250 per team.

Three days later the football practice facilities at NEMCC will be buzzing again as David Wilkerson's Northeast Quarterback Camp takes place on July 10-11 from 1:00 - 3:00 p.m. each day. Wilkerson is NEMCC's offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach. Former Mississippi State University quarterbacks Matt Wyatt, and Rob Morgan will participate as instructors among others.

"It's going to be a fun week," said Wilkerson. "The high school coaches really like the 7-on-7 tournament because the players get great conditioning work, while having fun at the same time. They also like the competition it provides. Our quarterback camp is great for one-on-one instruction with guys that know the position, and the right way to do things."

For more information on the NEMCC 7-on-7 passing tournament, or the NEMCC Quarterback Camp contact David Wilkerson at 662-720-7587 or email to dlwilkerson@nemcc.edu.

One day after the conclusion of the quarterback camp, Northeast football will host a four-person scramble, golf tournament at Oaks Country Club in New Albany. Proceeds from the tournament will benefit the 2007 Northeast Tigers football team. For information on how to participate in the scramble, please contact Oaks Country Club at 662-534-7411.

"We'll have a great time playing golf on Thursday," said NEMCC head football coach Andy Greening, "we always do. Then we'll have the pleasure of helping the NFL guys at the camp that following Friday and Saturday. I can't wait to see all those kids here on our campus."
