Athens, Ga. - Matching a familiar theme from Friday, Mississippi State's Philippe Frayssinoux and Maximilien Genuini advanced in their respective draws on the second day of action Saturday at the Southern Intercollegiate Championships.
In the Division I draw, State's 40th-ranked Frayssinoux knocked off 109th-ranked Dylan Arnould of Duke 6-3, 6-4 before moving on to defeat Tennessee's 69th-ranked Davey Sandgren 6-1, 6-3 in the Round of 16. With the pair of wins, Frayssinoux moves into the quarterfinals where he will face fourth-ranked and top-seeded Travis Helgeson of Georgia.
In the Division III draw, MSU's Genuini knocked off East Tennessee State's Serio Velez 6-4, 7-5 in the Round of 16 and also advanced to the quarterfinals.
In their opening doubles match, State's sophomore tandem of Pjotr Necajevs and Chris Doerr were victorious in their opening match, winning 9-7 over a Virginia Tech tandem.
Also victorious in singles on Saturday was Doerr and Necajevs in consolation. Doerr defeated Alejandro Portugal of Winthrop when Portugal retired after trailing 6-3, 1-0. Necajevs advanced with a 6-3, 5-7, 1-0(8) win over James Eason of the Citadel. In Division I consolation, State's Ryan Farlow fell 6-3, 6-3 to Sebastian Serrano of East Tennessee State.
Singles and doubles competition will continue Sunday at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the UGA campus.
