STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State men's tennis team will be back in action Thursday, as they begin play at the Intercollegiate Tennis Association Southeast Region Indoor Championships. The tournament, held at the University of Kentucky's Boone Tennis Complex and Gold's Gym in Lexington, begins with qualifying and ends with the finals on Monday.
In singles, Bulldogs Chris Doerr, Ryan Farlow, Pjotr Necajev and Maximilien Genuini will begin play Thursday, while State's 40th-ranked Philippe Frayssinoux, the tournament's seventh-seed, will begin play on Friday. In the doubles competition, which gets underway Friday, State's Frayssinoux will compete with Necajev while Doerr will team with Genuini.
"This weekend is a good chance for our guys to face some good competition," said MSU head coach Per Nilsson. "Much like the last tournament, our guys will be playing against some of the nation's best players. We must be at our best for our guys to have a chance to advance."
The singles finalists and the doubles champion will advance to the ITA National Indoor Championships to be held Nov. 1-4 in Columbus, Ohio.
