Brian Anderson Commits to MSU

Gene's Page recently interviewed Patrician Academy (Butler, AL) offensive lineman Brian Anderson (6-5, 285, 5.3). Brian committed to MSU a few days ago.

What is your height and weight?
"I am 6-5 and weigh 285 now."

Your forty time is listed at 5.3 on the internet. What is your average 40 speed?
"I've gotten 5.2 before, but most of the time it is 5.3 and 5.4."

Is Mississippi State recruiting you as an offensive tackle or guard?
"I think tackle. If they put me at guard in college, so be it. I play (offensive) tackle, defensive tackle and defensive end in school."

When did Mississippi State actually offer you a scholarship?
"Back during their two-a-days. I went to watch a practice on a Saturday. They offered me then."

State offered you a scholarship pretty early in the recruiting process. What did they say they like about you?
"They said I have good footwork and it is a lot better to get somebody that has the potential to put on weight than to have to get it off. They also liked my flexibility."

Did it surprise you that you received an offer from them so soon?
"I had two offers already from Troy State and Southern Miss, but it surprised me that Mississippi State or anybody would offer me that soon. I went to Sweet Water, a 1A school, a couple of years before, then I went to Patrician Academy. I knew that private schools weren't really recruited (in Alabama) so any offer was surprising."

You mentioned having offers from three schools. What other schools are recruiting you?
"I've gotten letters from places like Notre Dame and Louisville, but the schools that are calling me are LSU, Mississippi State, Southern Miss, Troy State, Georgia Tech....that's all of them that I can think of."

What was it about Mississippi State that you like that helped you decide to go ahead and commit early?
"It was good to get recruiting attention for a little while, but it starts to get aggravating because everybody is trying to pull you every way. I just wanted to go ahead and make a decision and I liked the coaches (at Mississippi State) and I don't think it's campus is as big and spread out as somewhere like Tuscaloosa and LSU."

What coach recruited you for Mississippi State?
"Coach Curley Hallman."

What are your impressions of him?
"I like him. He is a good guy. I liked him from the start. He was easy to get along with."

How far are you from Mississippi State? Aren't you close to Meridian?
"It is about an hour east of Meridian."

Thanks, Brian.

[Brian is a good student and will have no problem qualifying.-Gene]
