Wesley Carroll came to Mississippi State in hopes of one day becoming the Bulldogs starting quarterback. Due to injuries to the upperclassmen ahead of him, the Florida prepster was forced into action in this his true freshman campaign. Wesley's play this season him a spot on the Southeastern conference's All-Freshman team.

Carroll's 1,353 passing yards were the most among the league's freshman signal callers and Wes ties South Carolina's freshman Chris Smelley with nine touchdown tosses.
Wes' season high in passing yards was 421 against the University of Arkansas. The robust total was the second highest single game effort in the league. Andre Woodson's 430 yards against the University of Tennessee was the SEC's high mark.
Former high school teammate Major Wright, a defensive back for the University of Florida, joined Wesley on the league's list of top newcomers.
Carroll led the Bulldogs to a 7-5 record and a berth in the 49th annual Autozone Liberty Bowl.
