"We had a lot of players that wouldn't give up even though we had a lot of adversity facing us. Our players never gave up."
"Plays that were big plays in the game. The third and 3 where Darius Tubbs made the big catch. That put us in position to go ahead and score. We had drives in the 3rd and 4th quarters of 16 plays, 9 plays and 6 plays. I thought our offensive line was the difference in the game due to their being able to control the line of scrimmage. Our running backs really made some big plays, but I think our quarterback played very hard and got us in the right checks and put us in the right plays."
"Memphis is a very, very good football team. As a matter of fact, they are the best Memphis team that we have played except for one that beat us at Scott Field. This was our toughest win (against Memphis). The game was very physical. Tommy West has done a great job. There is no question about that."
Q&A with Coach Sherrill
Talk about your defense.
"The secondary played extremely well. Korey Banks played very, very well. He came up with very big plays. (Kevin) Dockery played well."
What did you say to the team at halftime?
"We kind of settled down on some plays and some of the blocking schemes that they were doing up front defensively. We made some adjustment to attack them in certain ways."
How is Blake Jones' hand? (Blake had a huge knot that covered the entire top of his hand.-Gene)
"We won't know until they X-ray it. Hopefully, it is not broken."
Can you say why Dontae Walker didn't make the trip.
"He is injured. It is his knee and shoulder."
Comment on the play of senior offensive tackle Carl Hutchins.
"Carl played extremely well. I gave a game ball to the offensive line."
Talk a little about the 8 minute, 24 second drive that you had late in the 3rd quarter.
"We wanted to run the clock. When you play a team that throws the ball as much as Memphis and that has the weapons they have, you better eat up the clock and score."
With all the injuries, is this a good time for an open date?
"We have to have one. We couldn't line up and play next week."
Do you feel this team has turned the corner with this win?
"We are going to enjoy this (win). The players have not given up and they won't give up. You have to give credit to Mario (Haggan) and Cokey (Justin Griffith). Those are probably the top leaders on this team and they won't let them go backwards."
