"This is the first game that I've been in in a long, long time that everything that happened we ended up giving to them. In the first half, we were able to overcome things that we gave them. But we came out in the second half and gave up the two punts and the two interceptions. Quite frankly, we can't give people gifts and expect to come back and win."
"I was pleased for the players in the first half because they did fight back and overcome what happened."
"I would guess that this was Kentucky's lowest (offensive) output that they've had in a long time."
Q & A with Coach Sherrill
Was there something in particular that you didn't do or he did do that allowed (Kentucky punt returner) Derek Abney to score the punt return touchdowns?
"We didn't cover. We told our kickers to punt the ball very high. The first one that he returned, we didn't kick it high and our gunners went inside. And you can't go inside. You have to make sure you put him back in the middle. That didn't happen. The second one, our wingback on the right let a guy come inside and he got part of the ball so that ball line drived. And we didn't do a very good job of getting down and containing him. But (Abney) has done that against everybody that they played."
Why didn't you try to angle it away from him?
"We tried to. We tried to angle three of them today but we couldn't do it. One of the ones he brought back, the wingback allowed his man to come inside and got his hand on the ball. Because of that, the ball came back inside."
With the wet fields this week, did not being outside factor into your play on the punt team?
"No, we just didn't execute. We just didn't perform very well. Our punters didn't punt very well and our cover team didn't cover."
After Norwood's good first half, what was your thinking about not using him much in the 3rd quarter?
"It was due to the number of snaps. If we had had a lot more snaps, then that would have made a difference."
What did you think about Jerious' play today?
"He was one of the players who performed very well today. The players who are performing, those are the players that you have to play."
Talk about the play of Kevin Fant.
"He wasn't the reason that we lost. Kevin took us on two good drives (actually three: 8 plays, 64 yards, 2-80 and 6-60). He made some excellent throws but we didn't catch very well for him early.
"I told our players after the game that they deserved better. We fought back and ended up giving it to them the first five minutes of the second half."
Talk about the players that were hurt during the game.
"I think we lost our left guard (Brad Weathers) and we lost Cokie (Justin Griffith). I don't know his status. We will have to x-ray Weathers. He may have broken his hand (broke his thumb). We also lost Darnell (Jones)." (Not sure what his injury is.-Gene)
Talk about having the 17-16 lead at halftime after all the turnovers and other miscues.
"I told them that we fought back. I also told them the first five minutes of the second half are very important. We turned right around (early in the second half) and it was like giving candy. We gave the candy out and they took it."
