In the home half of the 10th inning, true freshman Michael Busby (0-2) was touched for a leadoff single by Eric Farrell. K.K. Chalmers then drew a walk. After a sacrifice bunt, the Bulldogs got a flyout for the second out of the inning. Trey Wiedman drew an intentional walk to load the bases. Shelton then ended things hitting a 1-2 pitch for a soft liner to right field.
M-State scored first with the Bulldogs striking twice in the second inning. Russ Sneed drew a one-out walk and Tyler Moore followed with the first of three straight hits. Ryan Duffy laced an RBI-single scoring Sneed, while Mark Goforth legged out an infield hit to load the bases. Grant Hogue reached as a hit batsman, forcing in the second run.
Memphis (12-19) responded, scoring three runs in the third inning to take a 3-2 lead. K.K. Chalmers opened the inning with a single. Brett Bowen then reached on a dropped fly ball in right field, scoring Chalmers. Trey Wiedman then drew a walk. Cole Shelton reached as a hit batsman, forcing in a run. Tyler Huelsing followed with a two-run single, giving the Tigers their first lead.
MSU tied the contest in the fifth inning when Connor Powers slapped his 10th home run of the year. The Bulldog third baseman hit a solo shot off the right field foul pole to tie the game 3-3.
Memphis then scored four times in the home half of the sixth inning to take a 7-3 advantage. The Tigers bunched four straight hits. Bowen, Wiedman, Shelton and Huelsing had those hits. Shelton drove in two runs with his single, while Bowen and Huelsing each had RBI-singles.
The Bulldogs came right back half an inning later, scoring four runs of their own. In the seventh inning, Jason Nappi drew a leadoff walk and advanced on a single by Powers. Sneed followed with an RBI-double down the left field line, scoring Nappi. Tyler Moore then cleaned the bases with his sixth home run of the year - a three run shot off the hill in left field.
The Bulldogs finished with 14 hits. Duffy and Goforth each had three hits. For both players, it was their first three-hit game of the season. Sneed, Moore and Powers also each added multiple hits to the MSU attack.
The Tigers also finished with 14 hits. Huelsing had four hits and three RBI for the Tigers. Farrell added three hits, while Shelton had two hits and drove in five runs.
For the Bulldogs, Tyler Whitney drew the start. Whitney worked 2-1/3 innings, allowing five hits and three runs (two earned), with two walks and two strikeouts. Jesse Carver followed and worked 2-2/3 innings, allowing two hits and one run (earned), with two walks and a strikeout. Lee Swindle threw 2/3 inning, allowing four hits and three runs (all earned), with one walk and no strikeouts. Drew Hollinghead recorded the final out in the sixth inning and first out in the seventh inning. Aaron Weatherford then followed, working 2-2/3 innings of hitless relief with four strikeouts and one walk.
Brennon Martin (3-1) recorded the win. The fourth Memphis pitcher used, Martin worked three innings, allowing only the Duffy home run, with four strikeouts and a walk.
MSU returns to Southeastern Conference play this weekend by hosting Vanderbilt. The Bulldogs and Commodores are set to play at 6:30 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 1:30 p.m. Sunday at Dudy Noble Field.
