Commits to Mississippi State

Lafayette County (MS) High School athlete Montez Phillips has made his commitment known and the winner is Mississippi State.

"I just committed to Mississippi State about 30 minutes ago," said Phillips. "I had been pretty sold on them for a while.

"I talked to my parents about it Saturday night and they said it was my decision."

He explained the reasons behind his decision.

"I was real impressed with the coaches and how they want to keep winning and I like this class coming in. And their coaches just seemed to want me more than any of the other schools that were recruiting me. Plus, I wanted to go somewhere where I could start early.

Phillips is expected to play receiver for the Bulldogs.

"Coach Croom asked me if I wanted to play wide receiver and I told him I did," noted Phillips.

Montez Phillips, who chose MSU over offers from Ole Miss and Southern Miss, is MSU's 14th commitment.
