Thursday Football Short Updates

Mississippi State ran through a 90-minute Thursday practice as preparations for this weekend's SEC opener with Auburn near completion. "We just did a little dress-rehearsal," Coach Sylvester Croom called it. "We've still got a few things we need to clean up in our meetings and in our walk-through tomorrow but overall it was a good week of practice."

"It gives us a chance, now we've got to focus on filling in the details and going out and playing as good as we can play." Kickoff at Scott Field is 6:06 for the ESPN2 telecast.

INJURY UPDATES: A trio of Mississippi State starters returned to full-status Thursday. WR Brandon McRae (hamstring), OG Mike Gates (shoulder), and CB Jasper O'Quinn (hamstring) were all running with the first team(s) as usual and showing no ill-effects, and look to be back in the first lineup against Auburn.

But TE Marcus Green and KO Eric Richards did not participate in any drills. Green, who got his first start in the Southeastern Louisiana game, aggravated the hip condition that flared up in August. Croom confirmed that Green will not play this weekend. Neither will Richards who has had a shot for the inflamed tendon in his hip area.

"Other than that we should be OK," Croom said.

YOUR TURN: It hasn't been finalized, but as of now WLB Dominic Douglas is mentioned most often as the senior defender likely to wear injured MLB Jamar Chaney's #22 jersey for this game. That is pending approval of the coaches, of course. Last week senior SS Keith Fitzhugh exchanged the #1 he's worn for three years, in honor of his late younger sister, for Chaney's number for the one game.

Fitzhugh goes back to #1 this week. But, at today's practice he showed a reporter the ‘22' he just had shaved into his scalp right behind each ear.
