Women's Basketball
STARKVILLE, Miss. - Sixteen home games and matchups with 11 teams that were in postseason play a year ago highlight the 2008-09 Mississippi State women's basketball schedule announced Thursday.

The Lady Bulldogs open the season on Tuesday, Nov. 18, against Arkansas-Pine Bluff to kick-start a three-game homestand which also includes matchups with NorthwesternState on Nov. 23 and Mississippi Valley State on Nov. 25.

Following a road trip to Louisiana-Lafayette on Nov. 28, State returns home for three games against Louisiana Tech (Dec. 3), Nicholls State (Dec. 7) and Memphis (Dec. 14). A trip to Hattiesburg, Miss., to face Southern Mississippi on Dec. 16 is the beginning to a five-game road swing for the Lady Dogs. MSU will travel to Orem, Utah to face Utah Valley on Dec. 19, followed by a matchup with the University of Utah in Salt Lake City, Utah on Dec. 20.

After a nine day layoff, the Lady Bulldogs will travel to College Park, Md., for the Terrapin Classic hosted by the University of Maryland. MSU will open play against Marshall on Dec. 29 and will meet either national power Maryland or UNC Asheville on Dec. 30.

The Lady Bulldogs will open the 2009 new year with a non-conference home tilt against UAB on Jan. 2, followed by a home date with Atlantic-10 member Xavier on Jan. 4.

State will open its 14-game conference slate on the road against Florida on Jan. 8. MSU then returns home for a pair of home games against arch-rival Mississippi on Jan. 11, followed by a visit from defending national champion Tennessee on Jan. 15. The Lady Bulldogs then travel to Kentucky (Jan. 18) and to LSU (Jan. 22) before returning home to close out January hosting Arkansas on Jan. 25 in a game slated to be televised by Fox Sports Net. MSU will entertain Savannah State on Jan. 29 to close out its non-conference slate for the season.

State kicks off the month of February with a road trip to Georgia on Feb. 1. They return home to face Vanderbilt on Feb. 5, followed by a matchup with LSU on Feb. 8. State travels to Oxford, Miss., to take on Mississippi on Feb. 12 in an 8 p.m. C.T. contest that will be shown regionally by Fox Sports Net. State then returns home on Feb. 15 to face Auburn and will travel to Knoxville, Tenn., for their second matchup with Tennessee on Feb. 22. State will then return home to close out the month with a Feb. 26 date with South Carolina.

MSU will close out its regular season with a trip to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to face Alabama on Mar. 1.

The SEC Tournament will take place Mar. 5-8 at the Alltel Arena in Little Rock, Ark. The first 10 games of the tournament will be shown on Fox Sports Net while the final will be broadcast nationally on ESPN2.

Men's Tennis
STARKVILLE, Miss. - The Mississippi State men's tennis team will begin its fall action at the Southern Intercollegiate in Athens, Ga. The tournament, which consists of 179 participants from 32 schools, will be held at the Dan Magill Tennis Complex on the campus of the University of Georgia. In its 41st year, the Southern Intercollegiate is the South's oldest fall college tennis tournament.

MSU will send five players to compete in singles matches with senior Ryan Farlow, junior Chris Doerr, sophomores Antonio Lastre and Tanner Stump and freshman Daniel Sanchez, of Monterrey, Mexico, who will make his college debut this weekend.

Competing in doubles for the Bulldogs will be the tandem of Farlow and Sanchez, along with Doerr and Stump.

"It is a good time to start playing some matches," said Head Coach Per Nilsson. "We have some new guys we are excited about getting out there and it will be good to compete with some other teams."

Play will begin Friday morning and will conclude with the championship rounds on Monday, September 22.
